August 6th: Caribana 2008

It’s been a long time, we should’na left you but we’re back and we’re better! We hope you like! I am so excited to announce the launch of the new and improved thisisu.com! It was an amazing stroke of luck that our kick off coincided with Caribana. The annual Toronto festival is one of the year’s biggest events and a great place to see bold street fashion and gorgeous costumes. My only regret was not getting a shot of someone wearing an Obama T-shirt. There were a lot of Obama supporters and I love when people use fashion to express their politics.

Can’t go wrong in a pretty summer dress and comfy shoes. Comfort is a must at the Parade. You will not see any heels in today’s post!

Her nails and wristbands represent!

I love this T

One of the many elaborate costumes

This is definately my fav shot. The two young men on the fence look sick

July 12th/2008 Queen St, Pt 1

One of the things I love about street fashion is that there are no rules. Classic can be mixed with contemporary, wild can be mixed with conservative and the result can be stunning. Street fashion, which is essentially how the average person chooses to dress on any given day, is dependent on so many things. It is an expression of our mood, an expression of what we find beautiful or cool and is inspired by a need to belong and be admired by our peers. When I look at all the pictures in today’s post I’m reminded that even though there are so many elements that go into creating a great outfit, some people manage to make it look easy. I wanna thank all the fashionistas out there for giving me a place to rest my eyes. There is so much destruction in the world so it makes me happy to think that millions of people create something everyday, just by getting dressed.

I love this Channel ankle purse. One of the most interesting pieces I’ve seen

These ladies were on the their way to work. They make their summer dresses look effortless and fresh.

I originally wanted a pic of the young man on the right but when his friend showed up, I knew it had to be both of them. Great T and dress shirt!

July 9th/2008: Heat on the Street

It is MAD HOT in Toronto today! Yesterday’s eruption of thunder, lightening and rain didn’t break the heat for long. The blissful July weather has city dwellers sporting cool and comfortable fashions that are stylish and oh so fresh and clean. Everybody in today’s post managed to put together an outfit that is sensibly cool in terms of temperature and attitude.

Flowing skirt and tank…Perfect for beating the heat.

The large Juicy purse makes it easy to carry a load while remaining comfy. Every woman should have a big stylish purse.

The perfect summer dress

Light colours and fly runners

I have not seen anybody bust this hair style in a while. She is rocking it SO well and it’s a great way of keeping cool.

His sun-kissed curls are to die for!
